A trip to Bethlehem

Yesterday, Laney's preschool had their annual Trip to Bethlehem event. We had never been and since it was such a rainy, dreary day we were excited to get out of the house. They did an amazing job with this event. It was filled with tons of volunteers in costume and the whole church was decorated to look like Bethlehem. I was really impressed!

After we registered for the Bethlehem census, we were given money to pay our taxes (if only that happened in real life..people gave me money to pay my taxes). After one of the ladies dressed in full Bethlehem garb took us to the market place, we made pottery, pressed herbs, build a wood tower, made a crown, made a bracelet, ate at the bakery and had our picture taken (this Bethlehem was way before its time).

We then followed to King Herod who told us to find baby Jesus for him. After going through more of the church we found the sheep, Joseph, Mary & baby Jesus. Matthew loved the sheep!

Once we saw the sheep, we went to the chapel where they gave us each a pack of M & Ms (yum, right?). We went through the different letters that can be seen on an M & M and what it means with relationship to Christmas (M for manager, mary. W for winter, wiseman, waiting. 3 = 3 wisemen). I loved how M & Ms were related to the joy of Jesus' birth. Now that is my kind of church :)

But before we made the trip to Bethlehem, the kids played some instruments.

At the marketplace, there was tons for the kids to do.
Ella loved her crown.

Laney ran into her teacher from last year, Miss Lisa, at the bakery.

I love these types of days with my family.

Trying to get a picture of all three of them.
Trying being the key word.

So fun! I love the M&Ms tie-in, too! Very cute. What a great, hands-on way to teach kids about the reason for Christmas. Love it! Great pictures, too!

That's so nice that Laney's preschool put on that event. It looks like it was very well done! I forgot that you sent us information about that. Bummer!

I love anything that involves M&M's and sweet Baby Jesus!
