Wacky things for Wednesday

--Laney will ask you "What's your last name?" and then takes her pen out and pretends to write it down (like a detective would).

--Ella continues to be ahead of her time when it comes to matching clothes. I love to see what she comes downstairs wearing and have learned to embrace her style. The other day she picked out some plaid capris that were pink and green and put them under her Easter dress. She figured since both had pink and green they "matched."

--Matthew is into everything and I mean everything these days. He specializes in trash cans. I turn around to find MJ covered in tissues from the downstairs bathroom (then decides to eat the tissues)

--I heard the girls playing house the other day and pretending MJ is the baby. I later see them locking him in their play house since babies have to stay inside (or so they told me)

--When Laney cops an attitude I often tell her, I don't like the way you are acting. She then yells, "I am not acting, Mom."

--Questions from Ella: "Where is outer space? Who lives in outerspace? Is Grandpa Mike from outer space? (I won't tell you what I told her, Dad)

--I have an aerobics instructor that I absolutely love. I told Jason that she must have been drunk one day because she had moves I had never seen. I should have known that would backfire. During dinner one night, Laney turned towards me and said "you're drunk, Mom." But she didn't say it seriously, she said it so loud and with such happiness.

--Ella asked where all of us were born: Dad/Mom/Laney/ Matthew/ Ella/ Ms. Jen/Ms. Kristy/Mr. Joel/Mr. Troy. Troy was born in Alaska and when I told her this she said, "Alaska...where is that? Is that near outer space?" Maybe with all of this outer space talk she is destined to be an astronaut??

--The Berenstain Bears have a book about jealousy called The Green Eyed Monster. Sister Bear gets jealous of brother bear because he gets a new bike for his birthday. So the green eyed monster (who is green with horns and looks just like sister bear) comes to visit sister bear during the night. Whenever we read this part, Laney says, "the green eyed monster looks like me." She then proceeds to say she wants to the Green eyed monster to come visit her. I think she misses the point of this book.

--Ella wants to marry her dad. She says it all the time. I told her that we would love for her to marry somebody like her father but she said, "no, I want to marry my daddy so I can live with you guys forever." I will remind her of this when she is 17.

It's here, it's here, it's here!

I have worked on putting the first year and a half of my blog into a book. Although I love the online version I wanted to have a hard copy for the kids to enjoy and read as they get older (or as we all joke, something for them to take to therapy). When it arrived today I couldn't put it down. For my first blog book I have to say I am really proud of myself.

With this book being my first one, I found some layouts that worked great and some were just so-so. This one of Laney with the text surrounding her turned out really cute.

Ok, so it's kind of thick but I have many words of wisdom to pass on to the future generation
and I am sure they don't want to miss a thing!

Matthew is 10 months!

Words: Mama, Dada, Do (dog)
Enjoys: Crawling around, pulling up on everything, escaping my road blocks I have set up so he doesn't get into everything!
Favorite Toys: balls, the girls' hair
Favorite Food: cheese, cheerios
Gets most upset: when his bottle is empty and he is still hungry (at night he takes 10 oz!)

Weight: 19#13 oz.....a huge jump for him!

I weaned Matthew a few weeks ago and although I had some emotional issues with it (hello mood swings!), he did perfectly. He guzzles his formula like no tomorrow and his cheeks are actually looking chubby. As my friend, Erin, says, I must have made skim milk (probably the dietitian in me).

Trying to trick the Tooth Fairy

Before bed the other night, Ella told Jason that she was going to trick the tooth fairy by placing a small toy, wrapped in a kleenex, under her pillow.
Thank goodness the tooth fairy can hear everything, right?

So instead of money, the tooth fairy left Ella a note :)

The note reads:

Ella,
Thank you so much for leaving your kitty for me.
Unfortunately, I can only leave money for lost teeth.
When you lose your next tooth be sure to put it
in your bird pillow. I really like that pillow.
See you next time!

Your friend, TF

Just couldn't resist

As the girls were getting ready for preschool a few weeks ago, I just couldn't resist taking pics of their adorable outfits. Maybe I was also just a tad bit excited that Laney could wear her vest instead of her huge winter coat? Sure Ella wasn't into it (one day, you know she is going to ask me if she enjoyed her childhood because she rarely gives the camera her natural, adorable smile) but Laney sure was. Work it girl!

Although it looks like the '80s ponytail to the side, I swear she had pigtails in :)

Ella's birthday party

*As a warning, there are a ton of pictures in this post. But as many of you know, this blog serves as my "baby book"*

On Saturday, we had Ella's 5th birthday party with 6 of her friends. When we first discussed Ella's birthday party, she wanted to have a sleepover. We were all for this but as we started to think of the logistics, we thought waiting another year would be a better idea. So Jason thought of a cooking party (since Ella l-o-v-e-s to cook with us). Ella was excited for her party!

Her invitation
I have used smilebox.com before for e-cards and online photo albums but I found out that they print at Sams Club and Walmart now. So I played around with a few layouts and then within an hour, they were ready. Her thank you cards also included pictures through Smilebox. Such an easy program.

Today's Menu:
Fruit Kabobs
Pizza
Ice Cream Bar

Jason and I had fun making the signs
and trying to be witty about it

After the kids spent 30 minutes working on their coloring project (which I allotted 5 minutes for) they wanted to play on the swing set. So for the first hour of the three hour party the kids had free time. Some of the kids hadn't seen each other in a while so I honestly think they enjoyed catching up.

After the swing set we made fruit kabobs. FYI for the parents, if you want your kids to eat more fruit or cooked vegetables, cut up the fruit and have them put it on skewers. Every kid had at least two servings of the fruit kabob. It kept them entertained for a good 20 minutes!

After more outside time, we made chef hats.

Then it was cooking time!
Brette and Laney making their pizzas

The aprons each of the kids got.
It was so fun to find items related to a cooking themed party!

Ella and Carly cooking away

Great job, Grace!

Here are 4 of the yummy pizzas

Last year Ella loved having the small bench from outside brought inside and made like a throne. Then when she opened the presents from her friends, whoever gave her the present sat on the "throne" with Ella. She wanted to do this again for her 5th birthday party and I was all for it since it gave me a chance to get a picture of Ella with each of her friends.

Grace and Ella
The present she got was a hat that she can decorate with gems.
Kelly, she did this today and I will definitely be blogging about it. It actually turned out really cute!

Reese and Ryan with the birthday girl
I have to pass along the cutest story about Reese.
Ryan has many food allergies and wasn't able to cook the pizza with us. Reese said that she would play outside with Ryan and make her pizza later because she wanted to keep him company so he didn't feel left out. Kristy and Joel, you are doing so much right with your kids!

Carly and Ella

Our silly ladies

I had a lot of fun capturing funny moments between the kids. Ryan and Grace, who are cousins, loved playing around in the grass. There were so many great pictures, and I thought it would be fun to highlight Grace's cute dress. The only thing I don't like about Picassa and the black/white with color option is the color can only be in a complete circle (therefore having to highlight the grass on either side of Grace). Oh well....for free I can't really complain, right?

One of the many shots I got of the kids on the swingset, since they spent like half the day there. Reese was great at organizing games with my favorite being the "find your boyfriend" game. Well, there was only one boy there and he was playing with Grace. Ella ran up to Ryan and said "will you marry me?" and he said, "no, I can't Ella. I have to marry my cousin, Grace." I knew there was something up with the Schenher family :)

Our little chefs

Then we did a sundae bar.
Our theory with this was give them as much as ice cream, whipped topping, chocolate syrup as they wanted and then send them home. Seriously, some of the kids had huge helpings (like the above pic) but for the record, nobody finished their big helpings except.......

I couldn't believe it! Ok, I can...she IS my daughter :)

I had SO many games planned for Ella's party as I wasn't sure what the kids would want to do or how long some of the crafts/cooking would take. We ran out of time but I told Ella she could pick one more game to play with her friends. She chose the egg race. The kids were enthralled.

I love Ryan's face (especially with the shirt)

Ella was like "what's so hard about this egg race thing?"

Kristy, just so you know Ryan was not the first one to drop his egg.
Laney dropped her's accidentally but once the kids realized how much fun that was, they all dropped their eggs. The laughter was awesome!

Then they played with the egg yolks. Amazing how you plan so many activities and this is what they enjoy? :)

A huge thank you to Jason's parents for coming up. Bettye was a trooper and helped us with all the games, cooking and crafts. Thank you for your help! Although the kids did amazingly well, the extra set of hands was fantastic!!

Two happy men

The goody bags included an apron, a measuring cup, candy eggs and the chef hat they made.

Ella--our happy 5 year old!
We love you!!

It's an interview with the Birthday Girl

My friend, Kristy, had a great idea about interviewing her daughter, Reese, each year on her birthday. Well, I liked this idea so much I had to steal it and interview Ella. Although I picked the worst time to do the interview (the night of her birthday after a long, yet fun, weekend) it was still fun nonetheless.

Matthew: I like that he is little

Five

What is your favorite thing to do at home?
Play outside

What was your favorite thing about school?

Happy Birthday, Ella!

Below is a picture tonight at Logan's Steakhouse as they were wishing her a birthday yee-haw! Ella just stood there motionless. Later I asked her why she didn't smile when they clapped for her and she said "because they were so loud." Love it! Look how into it the server is getting :)
